The Daytime Gardeners of North Haven collaborated with Girl Scout Troop 66400 of Meriden, CT, to prepare mason bee houses for the girls to install at their homes. Troop Leader Kris Park learned about the mason bee project sponsored by the Daytime Gardeners and thought it would be a good environmental activity for members of her troop.
Preparations were made with Walt Brockett, who prepared the mason bee house kits for the girls to assemble, and Sally Brockett, who provided a presentation to teach some basic information about mason bees. The girls enjoyed assembling their bee houses and look forward to observing them for bee activity this spring. Most girls will be fortunate and have bees use their house. The girls enjoyed learning about this type of bee, how it lives, and its value as a pollinator.
The Daytime Gardeners of North Haven is a member of the Federated Garden Clubs of CT and welcomes new members at any time. Contact Brenda Howlett at 203-239-1557 for more information.
