The Daytime Gardeners of North Haven planted a white oak tree between the library and cultural center as part of a state-wide program to plant oak trees.
The white oak is the state tree in recognition of the importance of the Charter Oak in Connecticut’s state history.
Oak trees are also environmentally important to the state. They provide food and habitat for a wide variety of birds, animals, and insects.

Blue jays use acorns and allow oaks to disperse faster than any other tree. The birds may fly two miles with the acorn and may bury 4500 in the fall, but only remember a third of those. Squirrels also bury many acorns and some of those become trees.
