Daytime Gardeners of North Haven
Local Garden Club supports the Memorial Library Reading Gardens
The Daytime Gardeners of North Haven continue their association with the library's reading garden through maintenance of the grounds - weeding, watering planting throughout the year.
Jianney Keegan (deceased) one of the founders of the Daytime Gardeners, designed the plantings in the reading garden with cooperation from Ann Bacon, library association, and other committee members. A history of the garden's origination was related to Janice Meinsen, Civic Co-Chairman of Daytime Gardeners, by Phyllis Kaercher, Co-President of Friends of Library, with helpful research from newly appointed librarian, Pat LaTerza.
The garden was dedicated in September of 2003. Funding of $81,000 was the parting gift of the Memorial Library Association to the town library for the building and planting of the addition. Friends of the Library took over and are currently active in providing project and services not covered in the library budget. Individuals have since donated benches and various plantings in memory of departed loved ones. The garden is open to the public year round.
