Daytime Gardeners of North Haven Observe Vascular System of Flowers
The Daytime Gardeners are offering a “Make & Take” activity on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at the North Haven Recreation Center, 7 Linsley Street. The vascular system of flowers will be observed when flowers are hydrated with colored water. The flower stems contain the xylem, or tiny tubes, for carrying water and minerals from the roots to the leaves and flowers. When the flower stems are cut lengthwise and each stem piece is put into a vial with colored water, the petals will change color according to the water color they receive. Participants can create” designer flowers” according to their color preferences.
Join us and enjoy creating your own flower with petals of your color choice. The program is at 11:00 AM and guests are welcome. A $5.00 donation is appreciated. To register, please call Daytime Gardeners at 203-239-1557.
