Drunken Man, 64, Brandishes Loaded Gun in Air While Fighting with Friends: North Haven Police

Police say the incident occurred in a North Haven parking lot at about 1:30 p.m.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — A 64-year-old man is accused of waving a loaded gun in the air while he was intoxicated and arguing with two other men in a parking lot in North Haven, according to police.

North Haven Police responded to a Washington Avenue parking lot at about 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 1 on the report of a fight-in-progress.

A witness told police that three men were arguing while inside of a small black pick-up truck. The driver of the truck exited and pulled a black handgun from his waistband, according to police.

The man pointed the gun in the air and stated “it’s loaded” while his friends were trying to convince him to put the gun away, police said.

Officers arrived on scene and took the man into custody. They seized the loaded handgun and placed 64-year-old Leonard Russell under arrest.

Police said that Russell was found to have a valid pistol permit, but he was intoxicated while carrying the gun.

Russell was charged with possession of a loaded firearm while intoxicated and breach of peace.
