Finance Workshops for February Begin Saturday

Board of Education, IT, and Fire Department workshops scheduled for February 12.

The Town of North Haven will begin its February round of financial workshops for municipal departments this Saturday in ancipation of finalizing the budget on March 16. Four departments, the Board of Selectman, the Department of Public Works, the Library Department, and the Department of Community Services and Recreation had their workshops with the Board of Finance in late January.

First Selectman Michael Freda has attempted to keep the town budget relatively flat this year, citing the economic downturn and a lack of certainty about state funding as reasons for financial conservatism.

Currently, the town budget is estimated to increase between 1 and 1.6% from last year, and the education budget around 1%. Freda said at the February Board of Selectmen meeting that he was looking closely at the town's $2.7 million dollars in capital requests for 2011 in an effort to cut nonessential acquisitions.
