Former Agway Property Sold In North Haven

NORTH HAVEN, CT — The former Smithland Supply/Agway Pet & Garden Center property on State Street in North Haven has been sold for $1.8 million, according to realtors.

O,R&L Commercial announced this week the successful sale of 66 State Street, a nearly 18,000 square-foot retail building situated on 3.52 acres, to North Haven-based National Lumber, Inc.

The sale was facilitated by Sam Crampton of O,R&L Commercial in Branford who represented the buyer, National Lumber, according to a news release. Tyler Lyman of TRUE Commercial Real Estate in Fairfield represented the seller, Trio Fund | CT Portfolio, LLC out of New York.

“Located along the highly traveled State Street (Route 5) commercial corridor, the property was formerly occupied by Agway/Smithland Supply and features a retail building and greenhouse space with ample on-site parking,” according to the news release. “The site offers approximately 217 feet of frontage along State Street and convenient access to Interstate 91, located less than one mile from the property. National Lumber, Inc. will be exploring several business opportunities for the location in order to continue delivering exceptional local expertise and par excellent service.”

Smithland Pet & Garden Centers announced in May 2025 that it was closing all 13 of its retail locations — including seven outlets in Connecticut.

National Lumber, Inc. has served as a “cornerstone of the building industry” in the Greater New Haven area for more than 60 years, according to the news release.
