Gaylord Nurse Evelyn Bykowski Recognized for Extraordinary Care
North Haven Resident Honored with DAISY Award
Gaylord Specialty Healthcare, a nonprofit rehabilitation-focused healthcare system, presented its quarterly DAISY Award for Extraordinary Care to North Haven resident Evelyn Bykowski, BSN, RN.
In a written nomination, colleague Lydia Jandreau, RN, CRRN, described Bykowski as a “memorable” night shift nurse on the hospital’s Hooker 2 unit for traumatic brain injury patients.
“Evie never leaves any stones unturned,” Jandreau said. “At times you can see her going home exhausted after pouring 100% of herself into the care of her TBI patients. She is an exceptional nurse who offers her interventions with dignity, resourcefulness and dedication, never wavering from what is right but doing it all with a sense of calmness and humor.”

A Gaylord nurse for three years, Bykowski said that being recognized with the DAISY award was “an incredible and overwhelming honor.”
“My love of nursing and Gaylord Specialty Healthcare is what drives me each day,” she said. “My patients work so hard and it’s amazing to see the progress they make. To hear a patient say they feel like they’re getting their life back is just the best. I consider myself lucky to have found my place on the traumatic brain injury floor because I absolutely love what I do.”

About the DAISY Award:
The international award was created by the DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died of an auto-immune disease in 1999. Appreciative of the clinical skills, caring and compassion exhibited by each of the nurses who cared for Patrick, the Barnes family created the international award and foundation to say ‘thank you’ to nurses throughout the world.
