Hammer-Wielding Burglar Stole $9K Worth of Cigarettes from Gas Station: North Haven Police

Police say the suspect used a hammer to smash his way into the gas station.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — A New Haven man is accused of using a hammer to smash his way into a gas station and stealing $9,000 worth of cigarettes this past Thanksgiving, according to North Haven Police.

At about 6:30 a.m. on Nov. 24, 2016, a man used a hammer to shatter the glass door at the Shell Gas Station on State Street and stole $9,000 worth of cigarettes, police said.

The suspect was clad in all black clothing with a mask concealing his face.

Detectives identified the suspect as Michael Ross, 47, of New Haven, according to police.

Ross was arrested Jan. 29 on a warrant and charged with burglary, larceny and criminal mischief. Ross was held on a $15,000 bond and was scheduled to be arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on Monday.
