House Fire Extinguished In North Haven: Officials

Crews responded to a 911 call reporting a house on fire with people still inside the building, according to officials.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — Firefighters extinguished a house fire in North Haven on Friday afternoon, according to officials.

Crews responded to a 911 call around 3:30 p.m. reporting a house on fire with people still inside the building.

The first-arriving unit found smoke and fire alarms sounding at the scene and immediately began searching for the missing occupants, including two adults and a cat, according to officials.

“Tower 1 and Engine 1 under command all of Captain Marino arrived shortly after and reported a heavy smoke condition inside the building, searching for fire,” officials wrote in a post on Facebook. “The fire was located in the basement and first water was from pressurized water extinguishers from R1 and T1 crews and ultimately controlled with a hose line.”

The two occupants were evaluated for smoke exposure but weren’t taken to the hospital, according to officials.

“The structure remained habitable but due to smoke damage and high CO levels inside the home, the occupants requested assistance from the Red Cross,” officials wrote. “The fire was quickly extinguished and confined to the basement. Both volunteer companies responded to the scene. The North Haven Fire Marshall’s office is investigating the cause of the fire and remains on scene at time of this update.

“The North Haven FD reminds all residents to have their house numbers clearly visible from the street on their house or mailbox to allow emergency responders to quickly locate their homes during an emergency.”
