NORTH HAVEN, CT — A man is facing charges after police said he attempted to rob a North Haven home and threatened the family inside with a knife.

Demitrias Terrell, 44, was charged with home invasion, possession of a dangerous weapon, attempted robbery and other counts following the Friday incident.

According to North Haven police, authorities received a 911 around 6 p.m. from a child who said a man had entered their Avalon Haven home armed with a large knife. The suspect fled when a man who lived in the home confronted him with an ax, police said.

After arriving at the home, police learned the suspect had been wearing dark clothing, a ski mask and some form of wraps around his hands.

Officers searched the area and eventually spotted Terrell walking out of a wooded area. Police said they found him in possession of a black ski mask, a large knife and hand wraps commonly used in boxing.

According to police, Terrell was later identified as the man who entered the home in Avalon Haven.

Terrell was taken into custody and is currently being held on a $500,000 bond.
