Legendary North Haven Baseball Coach Wins 900th Game

The wait is over for coach Bob DeMayo and the North Haven baseball team.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — After having to wait a few extra days due to last week’s storm, legendary North Haven baseball coach Bob DeMayo picked up his 900th career victory in the Indians’ 7-6 victory over Amity in the SCC quarterfinals earlier this week.

After collecting the historic win, DeMayo said he was glad it was over with. “I’m a bit choked up now,” the 85-year-old coach told Dave Phillips of GameTimeCT after the game. “I’m just trying to coach baseball here.”

The Indians, who lost to eventual tournament champion Fairfield Prep in the semifinals, will next play in the Class L state tournament. North Haven (16-4) earned the No. 2 seed and will play the winner of Woodstock/Harding on May 29.
