Lightning Strikes Home In North Haven: Fire Officials
Crews extinguished a fire that started after a lightning strike early Sunday morning in North Haven, according to officials.
NORTH HAVEN, CT — A house was struck by lightning early Sunday morning in North Haven, according to fire officials.
Firefighters responded to a 911 call around 2:40 a.m. that a house on Orcutt Court was struck by lightning and on fire.
No injuries were reported and the occupants were displaced from the home, according to fire officials.

Rescue 1 was the first-arriving unit and reported smoke and fire venting from the roof of a split-level home.
“Engine 1 under the command of Captain Spoldi initiated an interior fire attack and assigned crews to advance a 2nd interior hose one to fight fire in the attic space,” officials wrote in a post on the North Haven Fire Department’s Facebook page. “Due to limited access, fire attack was repositioned and made from the roof. Additional responding units performed search and ventilation at the scene. Wallingford Fire sent an engine company directly to the scene along with members of North East Co#3 Engine 7, 2 members of the FOCS for command support and West Ridge Co#3 covering additional calls in town. Despite high winds and driving rain, the fire was quickly contained and the occupants unharmed.

“As a result of the fire, the building could not be reoccupied and the occupants were planning to stay with relatives. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the NoHFD FM Office. The house did have operating smoke detectors which operated and aided in alerting the residents.”
