'Major Winter Storm' Forecast for North Haven This Weekend

It looks like this is really going to be the first significant snowstorm of the winter season.

It appears we’re in for a long duration snowstorm that would begin late Friday and not wrap up until Sunday morning.

For all of Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex and New London counties, the National Weather Service writes that “there is growing potential for a major winter storm Friday night into Sunday. This storm could produce heavy snow and strong winds.”

At the immediate coastline, flooding is also a concern, the weather service states.

Despite the growing certainty over the snow threat, no snow accumulations have been projected as of yet.

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Darren Sweeney on his blog writes more answers on possible snow totals could come on Wednesday.

“A strong storm develops off the mid-Atlantic during the day Saturday into Saturday night, likely ending by Sunday morning. What do don’t know: How close does the storm track, this will dictate if we see major snow or a lighter snow storm,” Sweeney wrote on his blog.

Prediction as of now via the National Weather Service:

• Friday night: Snow could begin any time after midnight with temps in the low 20s.
• Saturday: Snow likely, temps around 30, and a 70 percent chance of snow.
• Saturday night: Snow likely, mainly before midnight with temps in the low 20s and a 60 percent chance of snow.
• Sunday: 30 percent chance of snow early and then sunny with highs just above the freezing mark.
