Man Accused Of Using Identity Of A Deceased Person: North Haven Police
Detectives investigating a suicide in 2020 discovered the deceased had pawned several items 2 days after their death, police said.
NORTH HAVEN, CT — Police said a Waterbury man is accused of "using the identity of a deceased acquaintance of his in August 2020 to pawn items at a local pawn shop."
On Aug. 4, detectives arrested Michael Janco, 45, of Waterbury. Janco was charged with three counts of criminal impersonation, three counts of identity theft, and third-degree larceny.
"Janco is suspected of using the identity of a deceased acquaintance of his in August 2020 to pawn items at a local pawn shop," police said in a news release. "North Haven Detectives investigating a suicide in 2020 discovered the deceased had pawned several items 2 days after their death."

The investigation lead to obtaining an arrest warrant for Janco, police said. Janco also had several outstanding arrest warrants and is currently held on bond, police said.
