Man Charged In Theft Of Vehicle In North Haven: Police

NORTH HAVEN, CT — A New Jersey man has been arrested in connection with the theft of a motor vehicle from a gas station in North Haven in April, according to police.

Police said the theft took place on April 9 at a gas station on Washington Avenue.

“The victim had left his car running while he stepped inside the store — an invitation two suspects decided not to pass up,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “One got in and started to drive off; the suspect then paused just long enough to let his companion jump in too, and the two fled together.”

Police said detectives processed evidence, including DNA, and executed multiple search warrants to identify the suspects and secure two arrest warrants.

Marco Corpening, 29, of New Jersey, was apprehended by the Bayonne Police Department in August on a warrant. North Haven detectives went to New Jersey on Sept. 1 to take him into custody.

Corpening was charged with third-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny, larceny of a motor vehicle, and conspiracy to commit larceny of a motor vehicle.

The second suspect has also been apprehended, according to police.

Police said that due to the pending extradition process, his identity and specific charges are not being released at this time.

“The North Haven Police Department remains committed to exhausting all lawful investigative methods to identify, apprehend, and assist in prosecuting those responsible,” police wrote. “And yes, if that means a drive to Jersey, we'll make it.”
