Man Sold Car With Liens Against It For $15K: North Haven Police

Police say the victim was unable to register the vehicle after buying it for $15,000 in a cash-only deal.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — A New Haven man is accused of orchestrating a $15,000 cash-only purchase of a motor vehicle that had two liens against it at the time of sale, according to North Haven Police.

Mark Cafiero, 28, was taken into custody Tuesday on a warrant. Police said Cafiero withheld the information about the liens from the buyer, who was unable to register the vehicle after buying it.

Cafiero then cut off all contact with the buyer, according to police.

Cafiero was charged with second-degree larceny and second-degree forgery. He is being held on a $25,000 court-set bond, according to police.
