Men Apprehended After Foot Chase Through Verizon Store Parking Lot in North Haven

Police say the men attempted to purchase more than $900 worth of items by using fake IDs and a victim's Verizon account: BREAKING

NORTH HAVEN, CT — North Haven Police apprehended two men accused of using fake IDs to purchase more than $900 worth of items at the Verizon Wireless Store after a foot chase through the Universal Drive parking lot.

Police responded to the store on Monday, Aug. 8 on the report of suspicious activity and officers learned two men were attempting to use fake identification to make purchases through a Verizon account.

A man, later identified as Anthony Middleton, 29, used a fake New Jersey license claiming to be a Verizon account member, according to police.

Police said he attempted to purchase a phone and several accessories totaling more than $900 and he asked for the purchase to be billed to the victim’s account.

As police arrived, both men attempted to flee the area. After a foot chase through the Universal Drive parking lot, officers took Middleton, and his accomplice Kristopher Simmons, 29, into custody, police said in a press release.

Middleton, of New York, New York, was charged with criminal impersonation, second-degree forgery, conspiracy to commit fifth-degree larceny and criminal attempt to commit fifth-degree larceny. He was held on a $40,000 bond.

Middleton also has an active warrant for his arrest in New Jersey, according to police.

Simmons, of Yonkers, New York, was charged with conspiracy to commit fifth-degree larceny and interfering / resisting arrest. He was held on a $40,000 bond.

Both men are scheduled to be arraigned in Meriden Superior Court on Tuesday.
