“The investigation revealed the operator was traveling Northbound on Ridge Road, when he decided to begin operating on his rear tire only,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “The operator entered the Southbound lane and passed a vehicle in front of him, at which point he observed a Southbound vehicle and set the motorcycle back down on both tires. Upon doing so, he lost control of the motorcycle, veered west off the road striking a mailbox and glancing off several trees before falling off the motorcycle.”

The operator was later issued a summons for reckless driving, unregistered motor vehicle and no insurance, according to police.

“This incident is just one in a growing trend of not only unregistered motorcycles, dirtbikes & ATVs traveling our roadways, but also reckless behavior while traveling these roadways,” police wrote. “The operator today was very fortunate, seeing as he wasn’t wearing a helmet. If he had either been struck by the oncoming vehicle or hit one of the trees head-on, this post could have been much different.

“The North Haven Police Department urges all motorists to register and insure all vehicles and operate safely while on the roadways.”
