North Haven Adult Spelling Bee Lands Two Major Sponsors
The April 28th Adult Spelling Bee featuring some 35 teams of three has gained sponsorship.

The North Haven Education Foundation, Inc. which will hold its 2nd annual Adult Spelling Bee on Thursday evening, April 28th at North Haven High School is pleased to report that it now has two major sponsors for the event. The previously announced Gold Sponsor (presenting/title) is Quinnipiac University, thanks to the institution’s $5,000 donation.
Education Foundation President, Bernie Pellegrino, who recently raised $502 for the event from tips he earned when he served as a “Guest Bartender” at The Tavern in New Haven, has announced that “Due to a generous gift of $2,500 from Stearns and Ruth Bryant, we now have a Silver Sponsor for our Adult Spelling Bee.”
Initially, the Bryant family wished to remain anonymous, but later determined that it ought to be noted that support for the foundation’s efforts should not be derived solely from businesses or corporations. “We raised our children in North Haven and sent them to the public schools,” said Stearns, adding, “We believe in our school system. The education foundation serves diverse functions in support of that system. Everyone should do his/her part, large or small.” Obviously, the donors listed at www.nhedfoundation.org would agree.
Entry to the Adult Spelling Bee is FREE, and donated Pizza from local establishments, as well as refreshments from the Culinary Arts Dept. will be FREE starting at 6:00 pm. The Committee Chairperson, Kathy Rocklin, calls it a “Free-BEE, Pre-BEE social hour”. About 35 teams of 3 will begin the competition at 7:00 pm with the best of the hive trophy awarded by 9:00 pm. The Co-Emcees, a Referee, and a Word Wizard will keep everyone laughing. They promise that the word list used will be decidedly more familiar to contestants, as well.
The Adult Spelling Bee will be lots of fun for everyone, including voluntary audience participation. In addition to good-natured politicians and business representatives, there will be student and school staff teams. Everyone is urged to come to cheer on their favorites. This community-wide competition will also award prizes for the best team name, best costume, and the team with the most spirit.
