North Haven Athlete Nominated For 2017 USA Football Heart Of A Giant Award
Open voting is underway for the sixth and last set of Tri-State area high school football players nominated for the award.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — North Haven’s Mark Montano was among the 10 nominees announced for the 2017 USA Football Heart of a Giant Award, presented by Hospital for Special Surgery and the New York Giants, for the sixth and last set of Tri-State area high school football players nominated for open voting. These students have been nominated by their coaches for their commitment, teamwork, will, character and dedication, according to a press release.
Voting for these nominees will be open for 25 days with final vote tally determining who will be named the group’s finalist. One grand prize winner will be selected based on video submissions stating why they have the Heart of a Giant and will be honored on the field during a New York Giants’ home game. All six finalists will receive $1,500 for their high school’s football program, with the winner’s school getting an additional $3,500.
“Mark is the perfect example of what you want your younger players to be,” North Haven football coach Anthony Sagnella said.

Montano’s work ethic and commitment to his team shined when he played the second half of the 2016 season with a shoulder injury that would later need surgery. Through rigorous six-month rehab and an unparalleled work ethic, Montano was named captain for his senior season and has evolved into a leader both on the field and in the classroom.
