North Haven Football Advances to Class L Final

Indians hold on to beat fifth-seeded Wethersfield in semifinals.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — The North Haven football team is heading to its first-ever state championship game.

The top-seeded Indians held on for a 21-14 victory over No. 5 Wethersfield in the semifinals Monday night at Vanacore Field.

North Haven (12-0) jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead with long touchdown runs from Mike Montano (68 yards) and Conner Suraci (93 yards) on its first two possessions.

Montano, who finished with 182 yards rushing on 22 carries, added an 8-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Suraci had 166 yards on 12 carries.

North Haven (12-0) will take on No. 6 New Canaan, a 51-27 winner over Notre Dame-West Haven, in the title game on Saturday, Dec. 12 at 2:30 p.m. at West Haven High School.

“It feels great to get to the championship game,” Montano told Dan Nowak of the New Haven Register/GameTimeCT after the game. “It says a lot about our program, and we showed people we can play with anyone.”
