North Haven Improves in AP Test Results

Percentage of students scoring a 3, 4, or 5 on Advanced Placement tests jumps 8.1%.

The number of North Haven High School students scoring a 3 or above on Advanced Placement tests for college credit jumped from 64.7% in 2009 to 72.8% in 2010, an increase of 8.1%.

While both the number of test takers and total number of AP tests taken at the high school dropped slightly in 2010, from 141 to 136, and 252 to 243 respectively, 177 tests received a score of 3 or higher.

North Haven high performed better than several of its neighboring high schools, including Hamden, where 57.8% of test takers scored a 3 or above. Students from East Haven, Wallingford, Cheshire, and Branford high schools all scored slightly better on average.

Statewide, the number of tests taken rose 4,019 from 2009 to 2010, and the number of tests with passing scores increased 2,623.

While policies regarding AP tests varies from institution to institution, most schools accept scores of 3 or higher for course credit.
