North Haven Man Charged with DUI, Damaging Street Sign and Guardrail
A concerned motorist alerted police to a vehicle driving erratically on Clintonville Road.

A North Haven man is accused of driving under the influence and damaging a guardrail and street sign in town.
North Haven police arrested Angelo Onofrio, 31, on several charges after receiving a call from a concerned motorist reporting a vehicle driving erratically on Clintonville Road around 6:40 p.m. on Sunday night.
The motorist reported the vehicle had struck a guardrail and a street sign and a patrol officer soon located the vehicle matching the description on Pattern Road, according to police.

Upon approaching the vehicle, police observed front and side damage to the vehicle. Onofrio was arrested after failing standardized field sobriety tests, according to police.
Police said debris matching Onofrio’s vehicle was located on Clintonville Road, along with a destroyed speed limit sign and damaged guardrail.

Onofrio was also found to have concealed on his person several bags of heroin, according to police.
Onofrio was arrested on charges of evading responsibility, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, failure to drive in proper lane, driving under the influence and illegal possession of heroin. Onofrio was held on a $1,500 bond.
