North Haven Police Seek Carjacking Suspect

Police say a man attempted two carjackings in North Haven, including one at a McDonald's drive-thru, and said he needed a ride to New Haven.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — North Haven Police are looking for a man who attempted to carjack two people in town on Tuesday evening.

Police said the first incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on May 31 when officers responded to a report on an attempted carjacking on the Universal Drive Bridge.

The suspect reportedly walked up to the victim’s vehicle in traffic and stated he needed a ride to New Haven.

The victim refused to allow him to enter the vehicle, police said.

The suspect repeated “I need a ride to New Haven” while he reached his arm in the passenger side window, unlocked the door and then opened it, according to police.

The victim sped away at a high rate of speed and then called 911.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male about 5-feet, 8-inches tall, weighing around 190 to 200 pounds and wearing a white shirt and shorts.

A second victim reported he was at McDonald’s on Universal Drive when a man matching the same description as the first incident approached his vehicle while he was in the drive-thru line with his children and he stated he wanted a ride to New Haven.

The suspect also said “don’t make me do this, don’t make me do this” as he gestured toward his waistband, according to police.

The victim also drove away at a high rate of speed prior to calling 911.
