North Haven Recognized for Earning $10,000 Bright Idea Grant for Energy- saving Project at the State Capitol in Hartford

North Haven, Conn. (Dec. 17, 2013) – Thirty-five Connecticut municipalities were recognized on December 4th during a ceremony at the State Capitol for their participation in the statewide Clean Energy Communities program, an Energize Connecticut initiative that incentivizes cities and towns to support energy efficiency and renewable energy.
Municipal leaders from the communities were joined by their state senators and representatives to celebrate their city or town earning its first “Bright Idea Grant” through the program. North Haven earned their $10,000 grant based on the level of community participation in Energy Efficiency Fund programs.

From January 2010 through August 2013 North Haven saved 21,129,665 kWh and 380,824 ccf. By doing so, North Haven avoided emissions of 12,451 tons of CO2, which is equivalent to taking 2,171 cars off the road for one year.

· Town-wide campaign recruited 600 homes to participate in Home Energy Solutions program
· Several town-wide forums held regarding Small Business and Home Energy Solutions programs
· First Selectman Freda participated in HES in his home as Lead by Example
