North Haven Resident Elected Co-President Of Women’s Council

HAMDEN, CT — (From Quinnipiac University): Sasha Turner of North Haven, associate professor of history at Quinnipiac University, has been elected co-president of the Coordinating Council for Women in History. The council, an affiliate organization of the American Historical Association, is committed to supporting and fostering the inclusion of all women in the historical profession. Its mission is to broaden the organization of women historians and the study of women’s history to represent the diversity of women in the United States and internationally.

The executive board highlights the work of women historians and historians who focus on women. In addition, it provides a mentoring network and presents numerous scholarships and awards to new scholars.

“The Coordinating Council for Women in History’s mission to serve the diverse needs of women historians and historians of women is urgent and important,” Turner said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to bring my experiences and expertise as a black, immigrant, woman historian of enslaved women to further the goals of the organization.”

Turner, who joined Quinnipiac in 2010, has a doctorate of history and a master’s of philosophy from Cambridge University. She also has a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of West Indies.
