North Haven Resident Leads Albertus Magnus To Record-Setting Win

NORTH HAVEN, CT — North Haven’s Jill Johnson, a senior on the Albertus Magnus women’s basketball team, scored a team-high 27 points to help lead the Falcons to a record-setting 118-103 win over in-state rival Western Connecticut State University Tuesday night at “The Nest” inside the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletics Center.

Albertus Magnus, which had five players score in double-digits, set a program record with the 118-point performance. It was also the Falcons’ first program win over the Colonials. Albertus Magnus improved to 4-0 with the win, while WestConn fell to 4-2.

The game began close before Albertus Magnus rattled off a 15-0 run, extending their lead to 35-18 when senior Kristin Cunning (Hoboken, NJ) capped the spurt with a 3-pointer to begin the second quarter, which ultimately cemented the win.

The Falcons maintained the advantage for the remainder of the contest as WestConn was unable to shrink the deficit under nine points.
