North Haven Youth Football: Week 2 Game Summaries

The Indians' youth teams split their games in Week 2 action.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — The North Haven Youth Football league went 2-2 with the seventh and sixth-grade squads picking up victories over the weekend.

The eighth-grade Indians were defeated 30-14 by East Haven.

North Haven's scores came on passes from Geno Schiavo to Damian Carrano. The first was good for 55 yards and the second for 80 yards. Chase DeCarlo added a 2-point conversion kick.

Taray Smart made several touchdown saving tackles and David Pace added an interception.

The seventh-grade Indians evened their record at 1-1 with a 19-12 victory over Old Saybrook/Westbrook (OSW) this Sunday at Vanacore Field.

Despite giving up a score to Old Saybrook on their first drive, North Haven took a 7-6 lead when Ryan Balzano threw a 37-yard pass to Matt Dodge for their first touchdown.

However, OSW took a 12-7 lead into the half.

But that was the end of their scoring on the day as the North Haven defense stepped up.

Sebastian DeRubeis scored a third-quarter touchdown on a 1-yard run to give the Indians a lead they never relinquished at 13-12.

Jake Langer added a 26-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to end the scoring for the day at 19-12.

The Indian defense was led by strong efforts by Kennyel Santiago, Riley Sykes, and Aiden Rapuano.

After a bye week next week, the seventh-grade Indians will go on the road to take on East Haven on Sept. 18.

The sixth-grade Indians beat Manchester by a score of 15-0.

The Indians were led by the running duo of Jeffrey Karvas and Joey Iamuno, who each scored a touchdown apiece.

Mateo Raiano also added an extra point with a diving catch to put the North Haven up 7-0 at halftime.

Leading the way up front for Karvas and Iamunno were Sal Demaio, Sal Schepisi, Michael Masto, Daniel Mark Thomas, and Peter Harkins.

North Haven's defense was led by Joey Taft, Bennett Della Valle, Chayse Mangino, Yousef Gerbril, Tarik Elmammann, and Ryan Skronski, who had an interception to seal the game for the Indians.

The North Haven fourth-grade Indians lost to the Madison Tigers 13-6 in a hard-fought game.

Christian Mongillo had the team’s only touchdown on a great run. The touchdown run was set up by a pass thrown by Joey Mastroianni to Tyler Dimauro who had great run after the catch.

The team moved the ball well, but was faced with a lot of penalties. Defense played a great game, limiting the Tigers to 13 points.

Christian DeMaio had an interception to help out the defense. The Indians’ defensive line had most of the teams tackles led by Luca Fauklner, Tyler Sullivan, Bryan Moran and Jeff Davis.

The fourth-grade Indians look to get back on track this week when they travel to Cheshire to face the Rams.
