North Haven's DeRosa Named SCSU Baseball Captain
Southern Connecticut State University coach Tim Shea announces team captains for the upcoming season.

North Haven’s Jake DeRosa will serve as a team captain for the Southern Connecticut State University baseball team for the upcoming 2016 season.
SCSU baseball coach Tim Shea recently announced that DeRosa had been named a team captain along with fellow juniors Jake Lieberman (Commack, N.Y.), and Cole Bryant (Newington, Conn.).
DeRosa was a Northeast-10 Commissioners Honor Roll Selection last season. The second baseman appeared in seven games for the Owls, finishing with a .222 batting average, two hits, four RBI and a run.

Lieberman, who saw action primarily behind the plate, batted .301 with 17 runs scored and 12 RBI in 33 games last season. He was second on the team, along withJoe Breen (Nashua, N.H.), with 31 hits as well as recorded two doubles and a triple. Behind the plate, Lieberman recorded 241 put outs as well as recorded 38 assists and a fielding percentage of .979.
Bryant, a right-handed pitcher, posted a 4-4 mark over nine starts and 11 appearances out of the bullpen in 2013. He did not see any action in the 2014 and 2015 seasons, but in 2013 he accumulated a 3.48 ERA and was second on the team in wins and strikeouts (57). Bryant was also a Northeast-10 Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll Selection for his work inside of the classroom.

Last season, the Owls finished with an overall record of 18-19 and a Northeast-10 Conference record of 9-11. Southern Connecticut opens play in 2016 on February 26th in Myrtle Beach, SC in a non-conference game against Nyack College.
