Obituary: Charles J. Battista, 75; Formerly Of North Haven

Charlie, who served during the Vietnam War, was co-owner of a house and commercial construction company and longtime softball umpire.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — (From North Haven Funeral Home): Charles Joseph Battista, 75, passed away at his sister’s home in Jupiter, Florida on April 18, 2022. Charles, better known to friends and family as Charlie, was born in New Haven on August 8, 1946, to the late Charles and Ann Battista.

Charlie graduated from North Haven High School and Milford Academy before being drafted during the Vietnam War and served returning military at Madigan General Hospital in the state of Washington. Charlie loved Washington and made it his home for a major part of his life.

While in Washington, Charlie enjoyed the outdoors with hunting, fishing, scuba diving, backpacking and camping to name a few. He was co-owner of a major house and commercial construction company. Charlie was a great friend and loved by many, both in Washington and Florida.

Returning to Connecticut, Charlie spent his life with the “love” of his life, Marianne Daly and her children Andrew (his son Drake) and Carolyn (her son Trenton) in Melbourne, Florida.

For more than 25 years, Charlie gained recognition as a fair and honest softball umpire for Girls slow pitch, both college and high school.

Charlie is survived by his sister, Roberta B. Battis of Jupiter, Florida, his nephew Brian J. Battis (Sheryl) also of Jupiter, Florida.

Family and friends are invited to meet at The Office at All Saint Cemetery, 700 Middletown Avenue, North Haven on Monday morning, May 9 at 11:45 a.m. and may follow the funeral procession to the graveside for a 12 noon service with full military honors.
