Obituary: Charles R. Morrissey Sr., 79; Formerly Of North Haven

A U.S. Army veteran, he was a teacher in the North Haven School System for many years until his retirement and was active in the community.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — (From North Haven Funeral Home): Charles R. Morrissey Sr., 79, of Groton, formerly of Shawmut Avenue, North Haven, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 2, 2022 at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, New London. He was the beloved husband of Janice Hall Morrissey for nearly 58 years.

Charles was born in New Haven on February 19, 1943 and was the son of the late Charles J. and Anne Dwyer Morrissey.

A graduate of Notre Dame High School, West Haven, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Providence College in 1964, his Master and 6th Year degrees from Southern Connecticut State University.

Charles served his country faithfully in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era and the US Army Reserves earning the rank of Captain. He was a teacher for the North Haven School System for many years until his retirement.

Charlie was a proud member and past Commander of the American Legion Murray/Reynolds Post 76, and former American Legion State Commander for Connecticut. He was also member of the Second Company Governor’s Foot Guard, Gaelic Highland Pipe Band, and the Knights of Columbus Father Donaher Council of North Haven.

Charlie enjoyed reading, was very involved with the Town of North Haven Community especially their Memorial Day Parade but most of all Charlie was devoted to his family who he loved unconditionally.

Father of Rick Morrissey (Gail), Amy Morrissey, Melissa Morrissey, Jennifer Jones (Jeffrey) and Heather Wetmore (Kenneth). Grandfather of Kyle Purvis serving in the U.S. Army and stationed in Korea, Brett Jaffer, Frank M. Beisler, Jr., Shannon and Keira Beisler, Colleen and Natashia Wetmore, Abigail and Samantha Morrissey. Brother of Edward K. Morrissey (Sandra). Predeceased by his sister-in-law Patricia Morrissey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Legion Murray/ Reynolds Post 76 North Haven.
