Obituary: James H. Stackpole, 83, Of North Haven

A U.S. Marine Corp. & Air Force veteran, he had a long career as a Connecticut State Trooper & an inspector for the State Attorney's Office.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — (From North Haven Funeral Home): James H. Stackpole, 83, of North Haven, formerly a longtime resident of West Haven, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at his home with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 61 years to Diane Martin Stackpole.

James was born in New Haven and was one of 10 children to the late Henry and Letitia Smith Stackpole. He was predeceased by his brothers Lieutenant General (USMC) Henry Stackpole III (Vivien), George Stackpole (Barbara), and his sister Gayle O’Mara (Joseph). He is survived by his sisters Joan Gorry (Joseph), Holly Aven (Michael), Susan Alberino (Dominick), Diane Briody (Joseph) and his brothers Thomas (Linda) and Michael (Betty).

James graduated from Notre Dame High School and proudly served his Country in the U.S. Marine Corp. and the U.S. Air Force. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of New Haven majoring in Criminal Justice and then pursued a long career as a Connecticut State Trooper which included being recognized as a respected instructor at the Connecticut Police Academy. This experience led him to become an Inspector for the State Attorney’s Office in New Haven working major crime cases.

After leaving state service, he worked as a financial investigator for Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield. James was a passionate golfer and a member of the West Haven Elks Lodge #1537.

He is survived by his five children, daughters Kim Anderson (William), Vicki Stackpole-Adams, and sons James, Daniel (Bonnie), Brian (Nicole). He was the loving grandfather of, Stephanie Sloan (Daniel), Karl Anderson, Connor Adams, Jake, Chloe, Dylan, Riley, and Logan Stackpole, and two great-grandchildren Ellie and Liam Sloan.
