Reported Abduction May Have Been A Dispute: North Haven Police

"We believe this incident to be more of a dispute rather than an abduction and have not taken any calls for a missing or overdue female."

NORTH HAVEN, CT — A reported abduction appears to have actually been a dispute, according to North Haven police.

“It has come to our attention about a social media post involving a possible abduction in North Haven,” police said on Facebook. “While a call for service involving suspicious activity was reported, this social media post also lacked certain information.”

Police received a call shortly before 10:30 p.m. Saturday about a possible abduction at Clintonville and Pool roads, according to authorities. The caller reported that a white male with dark hair driving a white pickup truck picked up a white female with blonde hair wearing jeans, a white T-shirt and a long tan coat, police said. The male placed the female into the back of the truck and drove east on Clintonville Road towards North Branford, according to police.

North Haven officers responded to the area but did not find the truck, police said.

The person or people who contacted police said they believed the female had exited the truck and walked across the street before the truck pulled up in front of her in a residential driveway, according to authorities.

Video of the incident showed the truck traveling west on Clintonville Road at a slow speed while the male could be heard saying, “This is what I’m talking about, I will have to say,” at which point the recording becomes inaudible, police said. The truck then enters the driveway as the male continues yelling and the vehicle leaves going east, according to police, who said nothing could be heard from the female indicating an abduction.

No license plate was available but the truck appeared to be a newer model 3/4-ton pickup with cab clearance lights, police said.

“We believe this incident to be more of a dispute rather than an abduction and have not taken any calls for a missing or overdue female,” police said. “With that said, we take all calls for service seriously and will continue to investigate, and explore any possible leads and tips.”

Anyone with surveillance of the area that may have captured the vehicle is asked to send it to Capt. Joseph Woznyk at jwoznyk@northhavenpd.com or contact North Haven police at 203-239-1618.
