Road Closures Announced For Fallen Firefighter’s Funeral: North Haven PD

The road closures will be in effect for several hours, according to police.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — Police have announced several road closures that will be in effect on Tuesday, Jan. 3 for the funeral service of fallen North Haven Firefighter Matthias Wirtz.

The intersection and surrounding area of Route 5 and Route 22 will be closed at 9 a.m., according to police.

“Absolutely NO traffic will be allowed southbound beyond Rt. 5 at Franklin,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “Additionally, Rt. 22 will be closed from State Street to Pool Road (22 connector included). I-91 North exit 11 will also be closed. Lastly, there will be no northbound traffic beyond the intersection of Washington Avenue and Broadway.

“These road closures will be in effect for several hours, and are being put in place for the safety of a large amount of expected pedestrian and vehicle traffic. Both North Haven and area police departments will be present at these closings. Please avoid the area if possible and be patient. Thank you for your understanding.”
