Shoplifter Accused Of Fighting Inside Stop & Shop: North Haven PD

Police said a suspected shoplifter was fighting as he was trying to leave the store and nearly struck police cruisers while driving away.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — A Hamden man faces robbery and other charges in connection with a shoplifting incident at Stop & Shop in North Haven on Sunday, according to police.

North Haven police responded to Stop & Shop on Washington Avenue on the report of a fight inside the store.

Police found that a suspected shoplifter was trying to leave the store. Arriving officers found a vehicle that matched the suspect’s vehicle, according to police.

“Officers signaled the vehicle to stop, although it disregarded their signals, nearly striking police vehicles as it left,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “Several minutes later the suspect and vehicle were located in the area of Church St. and Shawmut.”

The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Alahn Cole, was arrested and charged with third-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny, operating without insurance, misuse of marker plate, evading responsibility and disobeying officer signal. He was released after posting a $10,000 bond.
