Suspects Flee In Stolen Mercedes: North Haven Police

Four suspects were seen checking car door handles around 4 a.m. and later fled from police in a Mercedes that was stolen out of Branford.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — Four suspects were seen checking car door handles during the overnight hours in North Haven and later fled from police in a stolen Mercedes.

Police were alerted to suspicious activity on Shawmut Avenue around 4 a.m. on Monday. A residential floodlight camera activated and four people were seen checking door handles of parked cars, according to police.

As officers arrived, a gray Mercedes was found driving down Shawmut Avenue, police said. The Mercedes was reported stolen out of Branford and police tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver “accelerated at a high rate of speed,” police said.

Police called off the pursuit but officers later found the unoccupied stolen Mercedes on Ridge Road near Westview Road. The four suspects ran away from the scene.
