Teen, 13, Comes to the Rescue of 66-Year-Old Woman: North Haven Police
While on the bus on his way home from school, the boy saw that the woman was bleeding profusely while lying on the sidewalk, police said.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — North Haven Police are commending the actions of a 13-year-old boy for coming to the rescue of a 66-year-old woman on Monday afternoon.
Police say that while he was on the bus on his way home from school, Christian Mercado saw that the woman was bleeding profusely while lying on a sidewalk on Quinnipiac Avenue. After getting off the bus, Christian ran to the woman to assist her.

“On Monday, December 19, 2016, 13-year-old Christian Mercado was riding the bus home from school when he noticed a women lying on a Quinnipiac Avenue sidewalk bleeding profusely. When the bus stopped, Christian got off and ran toward the woman while attempting to flag down cars to help. He checked on the women and found she had fallen and sustained severe lacerations to her nose and forehead. Christian continued to flag down vehicles, but no one stopped. He called 911 and summoned police and paramedics.
“The responding patrol officers were so impressed with the young man’s willingness to help a stranger and his concern for the injured women, they decided to chip in and purchase Christian a $250 gift card to Dick’s Sporting Goods. Today, while at the North Haven Middle School, officers presented Christian with the token of appreciation, and thanked him for being that women’s hero.”
