‘Threat Of Violence’ Leads To Lockdown, Early Dismissal Of North Haven High School, Middle School: PD

Police said the threat was deemed not credible and remains under investigation.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — Police are investigating a threat that led to a lockdown and an early dismissal of North Haven High School and Middle School on Tuesday.

All of the high school’s after school and evening events and practices, both home and away, were also postponed, according to the athletic department.

Police said the reported threat involved potential gun violence directed at North Haven High School.

After receiving the call, police said school staff placed both the high school and middle school into lockdown.

“Our officers immediately coordinated with School Resource Officers and the Board of Education to ensure the safety of all students and staff,” police wrote in an update on Tuesday afternoon. “A significant police presence was deployed to the schools as part of our commitment to maintaining a strong and proactive posture in situations like this.

“We understand that seeing a large police presence can be unsettling or even frightening. However, we believe it is critical to respond aggressively and without delay, to any potential threat in order to ensure the highest level of safety.

“We want to be clear: we take all threats seriously and will always respond swiftly and thoroughly to protect our community. We act decisively and without hesitation; we do not, and will never, take the safety of your children lightly.

“After deeming the threat not credible, we transitioned out of lockdown and remained on scene to assist school staff with an early dismissal, and out of caution, were present for the elementary school’s normal dismissal(s). Our detectives will continue to investigate this incident, but there is no concern for the safety of students, staff, or visitors.

“We appreciate the cooperation of school staff, students, parents, DATTCO Bus, our law enforcement partners, and our community during this incident. Thank you!”

(Original post) NORTH HAVEN, CT — North Haven High School and Middle School have been placed on a lockdown due to a “threat of violence” against the high school, according to police.

North Haven police are investigating the threat.

“It is important to note there has been NO actual violence,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “As we investigate this threat, we have stood up a heavy police presence, and individuals trying to come to either school will be turned away and staged in a nearby location until it is deemed safe for visitors.”

In an update around 1:45 p.m., police said the threat was not credible.

“After determining the threat at the high school campus to be not credible, we have shifted away from lockdown, and at the request of the BOE, are assisting with an early dismissal (high school and middle school only.),” police wrote. “Families of students, please follow BOE instruction for dismissal process.”
