NORTH HAVEN, CT — A traffic stop led to a potentially dangerous situation Thursday night in North Haven when police said what appeared to be a gun in the vehicle’s door pocket.

Police shared a photo of the items the officers saw in the traffic stop, which took place in the area of 50 Middletown Avenue, in a post on Facebook. The items turned out to be a pepper ball gun and a pellet gun, according to police.

“These pictures illustrate the dangers both officers and the public face from items such as these,” police wrote in the post. “How would you interpret these items at a quick glance, or in the dark?? C.G.S. 29-38 (Weapon in MV) states items such as these must be unloaded and stored in the trunk of such vehicle or in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console. While the driver was cooperative, these pictures show how easy a dangerous situation could unfold.”
