Uninvolved Driver Flees Crash Scene, Gets Arrested: North Haven Police

The driver, who nearly struck an officer while fleeing the area, was later found and arrested on gun charges, according to police.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — A 24-year-old New Haven man was arrested Monday on gun charges after fleeing from a crash in North Haven that he wasn’t involved with, according to police.

North Haven patrol officers responded to the 100 block of Quinnipiac Avenue around 9:30 a.m. on the report of a motor vehicle crash with injuries, according to police.

“As officers arrived on scene, an uninvolved vehicle waiting in traffic near the accident made abrupt maneuvers to try and exit their lane and leave the area,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “The vehicle in question did so at a high rate of speed and near pedestrian onlookers.”

Police said an officer tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver ignored the officer’s signal and fled the area and nearly struck an officer in the road.

“Officers attempted to stop the vehicle as it fled toward New Haven,” police wrote. “Efforts were ultimately unsuccessful.”

Police said the vehicle and driver’s description were given to surrounding towns, along with North Haven officers assigned to the regional violent crime task force.

Task Force officers found the vehicle and suspect a short time later in New Haven, where he was apprehended, according to police.

The 24-year-old New Haven man was arrested on weapons charges in connection with illegally possessing a handgun and will be charged accordingly for the North Haven incident, according to police.
