NORTH HAVEN, CT — A North Haven emergency vehicle was struck and damaged by a vehicle that failed to move over while crews were on the scene of a crash with injuries on I-91 North early Sunday morning, according to fire officials. Crews from the North Haven Fire Department — Engine, 1, Engine 2 and Rescue 1 — responded to the scene on I-91 North at about 1:30 a.m. on June 9.
“The damaged vehicle was in the center median of the highway,” officials wrote in a post on the North Haven Professional Fire Fighters Association Local 2987 Facebook page. “Engine 1 and Engine 2 were positioned to block traffic in the high speed and center lanes. A vehicle failed to merge from the high speed lane and struck the rear/side of Engine 2. Fortunately, no emergency workers were injured. Engine 2 will be out of service indefinitely.
“We routinely bring multiple emergency vehicles to highway incidents for this reason, to protect both emergency workers and accident victims. Cones and road flares are used to control traffic patterns. Please slow down.”
