Victim Escapes Attempted Armed Robbery In North Haven: Police

The victim told police they were meeting a seller to conduct an online transaction when four men armed with guns tried to rob them.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — A person escaped an attempted robbery by four men armed with guns while they were meeting to conduct an online transaction Thursday afternoon in North Haven, according to police.

Police responded to the area of Skiff Street and Hartford Turnpike around 2 p.m. on Sept. 1 on the report of an attempted robbery.

The victim told police they were trying to purchase a vehicle from Facebook Marketplace and were meeting with the seller(s) in the area. Four armed men reportedly tried to rob the victim while they were meeting the seller.

Police said the victim was able to get away in their vehicle and flag down a nearby officer. Police searched the area but did not find the suspects and detectives responded to follow up the investigation.

“Please be mindful if you're going to meet with a buyer or seller, never meet in a private area,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “Do not go to their home and do not let them into your home. If you absolutely need something delivered or picked up, like a piece of furniture, do so with friends or family so you are not alone. If you must be alone, let others know where you will be and at what time. Only meet during daylight hours, in high traffic or public places like town building lots, police stations, etc.
