Why Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day!

Let's say you have dinner around 7pm in the evening. This is your last meal of the day (no snacks...go you!). After heading to bed later, you get your 8 hours and wake-up around 7am. That is 12 hours you go without consuming any food or water. In a sense you are fasting. During the night while you are dreaming about what cheat meals you plan on having that weekend all of the glycogen (energy or carb storage) that is stored in your liver is used by your brain during the night...because unless you are in a state of REM, that brain of yours is running full force.12 hours later when that dreaded alarm goes off...your glycogen stores are extremely low if not completely out. So how does this relate back to pancakes, cereal and eggs you may ask? Well in order to function for the day, you need to replenish those stores. Aka eat a hearty breakfast. Break the FAST. Get it? So many people skip this meal which is why it may be hard for them to be energized to start their day and which is why most people resort to coffee to get that energy boost. Not only do you NOT need coffee but you can get that same boost of energy from eating the right foods. Some quick examples include old fashioned oatmeal with fresh fruit, eggs & your choice of veggie omelette with a side of 12 grain toast, or if you're a super on-the-go non-morning person prepare some clean muffins the night before. The options are endless and you can get as creative as you please...just don't skip the meal that sets the bar for the rest of your day. Start on the right foot, and who knows what else your day could bring!
