Witnesses Assist North Haven Police in Arrest of Drunk Driver Following Crash

The single-car crash occurred in the area of Montowese Avenue and Cloudland Road and the suspect fled the scene.

Witnesses helped North Haven police make an arrest of a suspected drunk driver Saturday night.

Officers responded to a single-car motor vehicle crash in the area of Montowese Avenue and Cloudland Road at about 8:35 p.m. with reports that the operator of the vehicle had fled the area.

Upon arrival, officers were able to make contact with several witnesses and were able to obtain a description of the suspect.

A short time later, Roger Chasse, 49, of Meriden, was located walking near the intersection of Montowese Avenue and Quinnipiac Avenue, according to police.

Police said once Chasse was detained, a witness of the crash was able to positively identify him as the operator.

Chasse was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with evading responsibility, driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, and failure to obey stop sign. Chasse was held on a $500 cash bond.

North Haven police thanked the public for its assistance in making the arrest.
