Woman Falsely Reported ‘Frightening’ Crime: North Haven Police

Police say the woman reported that she had been carjacked by an armed masked man after an accident in North Haven.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — A New Haven woman was arrested after police say she falsely reported a “frightening” crime in which she claimed she was carjacked by an armed masked man after an accident in North Haven. Katesha Jones, 45, reported that the incident occurred April 10 on Middletown Avenue near Quinnipiac Avenue when she was struck by another vehicle from behind.

“Katesha claimed she pulled over to the side of the road to check for damage, when the passenger of the vehicle that struck her approached her wearing a mask and holding a handgun,” police wrote in a press release. “She claimed the masked man pushed her and drove away with her vehicle. Detectives gathered surveillance footage from several businesses in the area that showed no crash occurred, and the robbery that was reported did not happen. Further, the claimed stolen vehicle was found in New Haven. An inspection revealed there was no evidence of a collision.”

Jones was arrested on a warrant and charged with falsely reporting an incident. She was released on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on May 5.
