NORTH HAVEN, CT — North Haven police are crediting the state’s new wrong-way indicator system with helping prevent a potential crash on I-91 on Wednesday.
Police said during the heavy rain on Wednesday night, a lost driver drove up the I-91 Exit ramp the wrong way.
“We would like to thank CT-DOT for a new system that was installed last month,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “The wrong way indicator system activated, stopping the driver who was able to safely turn around and exit the ramp.

“The new system involves wrong way detection to reduce wrong way crashes on high-risk freeway exit ramps. A typical wrong way detection system consists of a 360-degree camera deployed at the ramp intersection to detect vehicles traveling in the wrong direction and wrong way signs with red circular LED lights, which are activated to flash when a wrong way vehicle is detected.”
