You Lucky Dog is an established and well-loved dog walking business. We are currently seeking avid pet lovers and exceptional dog walkers to add to our outstanding team!

We operate 7 days a week with plans to expand business hours to holidays.

Hours: This part-time position requires a lot of availability. Typical hours are 10am -- 4pm, plus availability for the occasional early-evening walk as well as weekend walks. Availability is also necessary for after hours new client meetings.

Please note: This job is a part-time position. You can expect (5-8 walks per week) for the first couple of weeks during the training period. Opportunity for more walks will be available after the training period and as business increases.

Walks are typically for 1-2 dogs per visit in the same household.

Requirements:

- Must have availability for days and hours listed above. Failure to attend a scheduled visit without any noticed may result in termination.

- Must be 18 years or older and have a valid driver’s license, car insurance as well as a clean driving record. A dog-friendly car is also required, as some dogs require transportation for walks.

- Must be willing to drive to jobs within a 10-mile radius of our office in North Haven.

- Experience with dogs necessary. Respectable references of individuals who can attest to pet-care skills required. Professional references are appreciated, but not required.

- Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background and driving record check.

- Must be comfortable attending new client meetings. These meetings are required to meet prospective clients and their pets, and include routine protocol as well as client expectations. Walkers must appear presentable to clients and follow the You Lucky Dog dress code, which can be found in the Operations Manual.

- Must respect client confidentiality. Friends, family, children and/or own pets cannot be present on visits.

- Must respect every client’s right to privacy and security. All client information is confidential and all personal items or belongings are sacred. Personal client space will remain private unless authorized to enter.

- Will typically be scheduled for 30, 45, or 60 minutes at each visit.

- You MUST love ALL dogs. Big and small! All breeds!

- Must be comfortable walking big and small dogs.

- Will need to walk in inclement weather. Walkers must have appropriate rain/snow/heat attire and feel comfortable driving in rain/snow.

- Must be capable of walking 1-3 miles a day.

- Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.

- Will be expected to note any inconsistencies in dog’s typical behavior including bathroom habits.

- Must be willing to clean up and dispose of feces appropriately.

- Must be willing to provide dog with food, refresh water, and give oral medications. Experience giving injections a plus.

- Must be willing to care for dog by removing any ticks, wiping paws as well as body if necessary during inclement weather.

- Must keep dogs on leash at all times during walks. Walkers will only walk multiple dogs if they are from the same household.

- Must be comfortable running into clients who may be home sick or working from home.

- Must leave client’s home in equal or improved state of cleanliness after visit is complete.

- A smart phone is required for GPS check-in/out during visits. Must be prepared to use phone at an unlimited capacity for the job and you must have a mobile charger.

- Will be required to send detailed e-mails, text messages, or written notes inclusive of photos and/or videos from each scheduled visit.

- Must be willing to sign a non-compete, non-solicitation, and non-disclosure agreement.

- Will need to demonstrate that they have achieved full comprehension of employee handbook, operations manual as well as YLD emergency protocol.

- Must be punctual and organized with the ability to follow detailed instructions.

- Must be comfortable in social situations, with the ability to relate to others in a genuine and friendly manner.

- Must provide flexibility and be able to make adjustments on the go. There are many working parts to YLD and changes happen all the time.

- Should live in our service area though this is not a requirement.

- Must currently be or willing to become pet first aid and CPR certified (paid for by YLD).

- Must be willing to learn more about interpersonal relationships, the handling of animals, and all while being open to constructive criticism.

- Must be able to work in a team-friendly environment while getting along with co-workers.

Some Common Daily Dog Walker Tasks

- Feed and refresh water for dogs at scheduled times.

- Walk, run, and play with dogs in public streets, parks, or private yards. No dog parks.

- Pick up and clean up after dogs, including feces, urine accidents, plant disruption. Clean and wipe any muddy or wet paws. Check for ticks, etc.

- Mandatory vet transportation in case of emergency.

- Report any strange behaviors or disturbances to pets or household.

- Write a fun, playful update to the client describing your visit.
