1 Injured In Norwalk Construction Site Accident: Fire Department

The construction worker had to be rescued at the scene.

NORWALK, CT — A 58-year-old construction worker was injured Saturday morning when he fell while working on a building foundation for a recreation center at St. Mathews Church on Scribner Avenue, according to Deputy Norwalk Fire Chief Edward Prescott.

The accident occurred at about 8:30 a.m., and the worker, whose identity was not released, had to be rescued at the scene. The worker had fallen approximately eight feet and struck his head.

"The accident which occurred below grade, required the Firefighters to secure the patient in a rescue basket and use a ladder, and rope rigging to remove him," said Prescott in a statement. "The extrication process to about 15 minutes to get the patient to grade, for transport by Paramedics to Norwalk Hospital."

The man was admitted to the hospital for observation, and the accident is currently under investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
