1 Killed In Moped Crash, ID Released By Norwalk Police

Police said the crash happened Friday night shortly before 10 p.m. near Maple Street and Van Buren Avenue in Norwalk.

NORWALK, CT — Norwalk police are searching for possible witnesses to a Friday-night crash that claimed the life of a moped driver.

According to police, authorities were called to the intersection of Maple Street and Van Buren Avenue shortly before 10 p.m. Friday after several people reported a crash between a moped and an Infiniti SUV.

After police arrived, the driver of the moped was taken to Norwalk Hospital, where they later died, authorities said. The operator of the moped has been identified as Joseph Velez, 45, of Alvin Drive in Norwalk, police said.

The driver of the SUV remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators, police said.
